Mission & History

Marrakech Entraide is a non under Moroccan law which is a member of the International Federation of Benevolence and Mutual Aid (FIBRE) which aims to help anyone living in the region of Marrakech – Al Haouz without distinction of nationality, religion or political opinion.

Country Information

The project to rebuild a primary school will take place in the Al Haouz region of Morocco, where many schools were destroyed by the earthquake on September 8, 2023. Education is the foundation of a better future, and we cannot allow these children in the mountains to be left without access to learning. This primary school serves approximately 75 children, and its reconstruction is essential to restoring their right to education.

The Need

Following the earthquake on September 8, 2023, schools were either partially or completely destroyed. As a result, many children who should be attending primary school are now unable to access education. This situation is unacceptable. Schools play a crucial role in providing education that enables children to contribute to Morocco’s economic and social development.

Currently, schools remain closed, and access to digital devices and internet connections is limited, preventing most children from continuing their lessons. Additionally, temporary shelters were set up for schooling, but they were soon destroyed by strong winds.

The Project We Fund

The school rebuilding project has been successfully completed, adhering to Morocco’s seismic safety standards. This initiative has restored hope and educational opportunities for children previously without a school. Constructed using reinforced concrete, the building meets anti-seismic requirements, ensuring resilience against potential earthquakes. The Entraide Marrakech association managed the site in collaboration with a trusted partner who has successfully supported previous school projects, with additional backing from a Coca-Cola subsidy.

Furthermore, we prioritized sustainability by utilizing environmentally friendly materials designed for the local geography. The Ministry of Education, along with regional and provincial delegations, played a pivotal role in enabling the project’s success. Close collaboration with the El Haouz provincial directorate allowed us to develop essential technical specifications for reconstruction. We invite the community to celebrate this achievement as we foster ongoing educational initiatives and collaboration in the region.

The Result

We will “win” when students return to school and have a school worthy of the name.
