PANIAMOR Foundation
Think Human Fund
Mission & History
Founded over 30 years ago, PANIAMOR Foundation has been dedicated to supporting the educational community and addressing social challenges in Costa Rica. The foundation emerged in response to growing concerns about the digital divide and the need for effective use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among vulnerable populations.
PANIAMOR’s mission is to enhance digital literacy and promote responsible technology use among children and adolescents. They aim to bridge the digital divide through public-private partnerships and multisectoral initiatives. By focusing on digital citizenship and the ethical use of digital tools. PANIAMOR seeks to ensure that young people can navigate the online world safely and effectively, contributing to their overall development and well-being.
Country Information
Costa Rica has advanced ICT access through its participation in the UN’s Child Online Protection (COP) initiative and policies like the National Telecommunications Development Plan (PNDT) and the Policy for the Use of Digital Technologies in Education (PATDE). However, significant disparities remain, with 78% of higher-income students having good connectivity compared to just 40% of lower-income students, affecting remote education and widening educational inequalities.
PANIAMOR, with over 20 years of experience, addresses these issues through public-private partnerships and a focus on digital literacy. They promote responsible technology use and digital citizenship, emphasizing the connection between online and offline experiences and the need for digital rights and responsibilities.
The Need
To increase awareness of online violence and mitigate risks while promoting safe use of information and communication technologies, we will engage with children, adolescents, their families, and teachers. Our goal is to foster digital citizenship and create a safer digital environment.
The Project We Fund
Education and prevention of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children and adolescents, along with promoting safe use of information and communication technologies, will be key focuses. We will conduct awareness workshops to educate and sensitize the community on these issues.
The Result
